Hofmeister Kink

Wow! was this a big lesson for me.
As a salesman at Classic BMW in Plano,Texas we are offered ongoing training through our BMW manufacturer information website. This site is a wealth of knowledge and provides training for several different departments and until you really get in there and start looking around you have no idea what you will come across.

One of the test I was recently taking kept asking about Hofmeister Kink.
Of course my first thought was.....that's right! what or who is Hofmeister Kink?
“Hofmeister Kink” is one of the most common used words when describing the details of a BMW exterior design. But how many of us do really know what it means or the history behind it?
Let’s shed some light on this.
The styling cue which is the rear-leaning line where the glass meets the C pillar comes up to the roof line in a subtle reverse turn. The kink was first seen on the 1961 BMW 1500 and was later named after then-BMW director of design, Wilhelm Hofmeister.
This is another understated feature that is uniquely BMW but other car makers use it because of the
sophisticated look.

Wilhelm Hofmeister (1912–1978) was the BMW design chief from 1955 to 1970
